HEBRARIUM
Editor’s note:
MOICANNA has contributed visual and editorial material to this Herbarium entry. This conversation focuses on publishing, language and cultural context. It is not a legal commentary on any pending trade mark proceeding.
MOICANNA was an earlier publishing and visual project around Cannabis Education and Culture. Some of its material — books, prototypes, images and educational concepts — now lives on inside LIBERA HERBA.
The name changed. The work continued.
Some words become common before they become commercial.
Some words are born in fields, shops, fairs, catalogues, forums and whispered conversations before they ever reach a trademark office.
Canna is one of those words.
A shared word should not become a private gate.
| LH | What is MOICANNA? |
| MC | An independent publishing and design imprint working around cannabis education, visual culture and printed material. |
| LH | Why publishing, rather than products? |
| MC | Because cannabis still needs language, structure, memory and accessible educational tools. |
| LH | Why does the word “canna” matter? |
| MC | Because some words become common before they become commercial. They are used in shops, fairs, catalogues, grow rooms, books and conversations long before they reach a trademark office. |
| LH | Is this about one company? |
| MC | No. It is about a wider question: when a shared word becomes a private gate, what happens to small publishers, educators and cultural projects? |
| LH | What did MOICANNA create? |
| MC | Books, educational material, visual concepts, calendars and experimental learning tools around cannabis culture and cultivation. |
| LH | What should people understand first? |
| MC | That cannabis language was shaped under stigma. Nicknames, abbreviations and coded words were not marketing tricks at first. They were ways to speak when speaking openly was difficult — and sometimes unsafe. |
LH LIBERA HERBA; MC MOICANNA
This is why MOICANNA belongs in the Herbarium.
Not only as a name.
Not only as a publishing project.
But as a reminder that plant culture is also language culture.
And language, when it has been shared by many,
should be handled with care.
