HEBRARIUM
Cannabis history is too large
to be left to slogans.
Cannabis history is often scattered. A law here, a rope there, a medical text, a pipe, a field, a police file, a painting, a seed catalogue, a protest poster.
Museums matter because they gather the fragments.
The Hash Marihuana & Hemp Museum, with locations in Amsterdam and Barcelona, presents cannabis as culture, medicine, industry, ritual, prohibition, object and memory. Its value is not only in what it displays, but in the act of display itself: the plant is taken out of rumour and placed inside a public historical frame.
Berlin’s Hanf Museum works from a similar correction. Hemp is not treated only as intoxication. It is shown through agriculture, processing, industry, law and social history.
For LIBERA HERBA, these places are not tourist curiosities.
They are memory sites.
They remind us that cannabis history is too large to be left to slogans. It needs archives, rooms, labels, collections, disagreement, context and care.
The plant has been worn, smoked, prescribed, banned, taxed, woven, traded, painted, feared, defended and misunderstood.
A museum cannot tell the whole story.
But it can stop the story from disappearing.
