Rabelais – Pantagruelion, the herb that carried ships

At the end of The Third Book of Gargantua and Pantagruel, Rabelais devotes a long, playful and learned praise to a miraculous plant whose description unmistakably echoes hemp: its fibres, preparation, ropes, cloth, sails and its ability to carry human ambition across the world.
